Suzuki Jimny Greets 2015 with Higher Levels of Safety and Confidence

The tough but thrifty 3-door Suzuki Jimny four wheel drive is now safer and even better value for money with the latest upgrade to meet the 2015 model year.

Electronic stability control (ESC) is now standard on both entry-level JX and higher grade Sierra versions of the compact, fuel efficient, go almost anywhere sport utility vehicle (SUV).

ESC will assist the driver in maintaining control of the Jimny even in slippery conditions, and anti-lock braking, which was standard on Sierra, is now included on JX at no extra cost.

The Sierra model is visually distinguished from the JX with roof rails and new 15-inch diameter shadow chromed aluminum alloy wheels.

The Jimny is one of the most fuel efficient four wheel drive vehicles available in New Zealand, with the 5-speed manual model returning 7.1 litres/100 km in the combined fuel cycle and the four-speed automatic transmission Jimny averaging 7.4 litres/100 km.

With the latest upgrade comes a new instrument cluster, a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel and revised high quality seat upholstery.

A benchmark in compact dual purpose vehicle design for more than four decades, the latest Jimny has already been given Australian Design Rule certification.

“The Jimny still holds a unique market position, with its timeless looks and versatility,” said Gary Collins, general manager of automobile marketing for Suzuki New Zealand. “Its off-road prowess has made it a sturdy workhorse for many years and this latest upgrade, which comes at no added cost, simply underpins the strength of the model.”

Recommended retail price of the JX manual is $19,990, while the Sierra manual is $22,990, or $24,500 when specified with automatic transmission. In addition to alloy wheels, the Sierra’s standard specification includes electrically operated windows and door mirrors, central door locking, air conditioning, fabric accented door trim, a body-coloured grille and roof rails.

Measuring less than 3.7 metres for easy maneuverability in tight spaces and remarkable off-road ability, the Jimny has long attracted both fleet and private buyers in New Zealand. With excellent all-round visibility, a tight turning circle and easy access to the cabin it has proved ideal for use in difficult country terrain as well as its compact dimensions proving convenient for work in city and urban environments.

The Jimny weighs a trim 1,060 kg, has a generous 190 mm ground clearance.  A sturdy ladder-type, three-section frame adds to the vehicle’s strength while the push button drive select four wheel drive is a breeze to operate.

Suzuki’s proven M13A four-cylinder, 1,328 cc engine with four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing and multi-point fuel injection powers the Jimny. This double overhead camshaft power unit produces 62 kW of power and 110 Nm of torque, providing the Jimny with an ideal blend of performance and economy.
