Swift Gen3 safety
Famously fun and seriously safe
It's a hectic world out there so prevention and protection are essential in the car you drive, and inside a new Swift 3rd Gen is one of the safest places to be. Together, Swift 3rd Gen's sound structure, effective passive features, and safety assist technologies delivers performance and safety you can depend on.

Collision warning and avoidance
Cruise control and speed limiter
Swift 3rd Gen's cruise control enables the vehicle to automatically maintain a set speed without the need to operate the accelerator pedal. This reduces driver fatigue when driving at open road speeds or over long distances and also improves fuel efficiency by eliminating unnecessary acceleration and braking. The speed limiter allows you to set a maximum speed for safe driving.
Hill hold control
Hill starts are easy in the Swift 3rd Gen's brake is automatically applied until you move forward, preventing you rolling backwards. Available on auto models only.
Reverse camera
Cleverly integrated, the Swift 3rd Gen's 7-inch touchscreen display comes with a built-in reversing camera to help you park and increase safety when backing-up.
Braking and stability
ESP
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) helps you stay in control when you are cornering by counteracting understeer and oversteer. It also improves traction and reduces skidding whatever the road surface conditions.
ABS with EBD
Braking force on each wheel is automatically adjusted in relation to the available grip to provide the right amount of pressure to bring the vehicle to a safe, controlled stop. Swift 3rd Gen features dynamic ventilated front disc brakes and rear drums.
Brake assist
Brake Assist adjusts braking force when the brake pedal hasn't been fully depressed in an emergency braking situation. Based on the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed, the onboard computer determines whether it is an emergency braking situation and adds brake force to achieve optimum deceleration.
Speed alert
Speed limiter
The speed limiter function allows you to set a maximum speed for safe driving in the Swift 3rd Gen.
Advanced lighting
Daytime running lamps
Above the fog lamps, the energy-saving LED daytime running lamps automatically turn on with the engine, emitting an even line of light to remain noticeable to oncoming traffic.
Fog lamps
The Swift 3rd Gen's front fog lamps help maintain forward vision and noticeability in dense fog.
Structural integrity
In the event of a crash, a sound structure is vital to protecting you and your passengers. The Swift 3rd Gen's structural integrity is designed to provide enhanced passenger safety by absorbing and dispersing crash energy, maintaining the cabin's shape, and preventing parts of the car from causing injury.
HEARTECT platform
The Swift 3rd Gen's HEARTECT next-generation platform features a state-of-the-art, high-rigidity frame using 'Ultra & advanced high tensile steel (UHSS & AHSS). Its smoothly curving continuous shape effectively disperses impact energy in the case of a collision. The crumple zones are carefully designed to fold, absorb and dissipate collision energy and fewer joints mean less reinforcements are required, dispersing this energy more efficiently.
The new-generation platform also advances fundamental automotive functions like cruising, turning and stopping to the next level.
Pedestrian protection
To mitigate impact on a pedestrian in the event of contact, the Swift 3rd Gen's energy-absorbing structures are adopted in areas such as the front bonnet, cowl top, wipers and front bumper.
Occupant protection
The steering column, dash, roof pillars, pedals and floor panels will not move excessively, where they are more likely to injure the occupants. Doors will remain closed during the crash and will be able to be opened after the crash to assist quick rescue.
Pedal release mechanism
The pedal release mechanism in the Swift prevents the brake (and clutch) pedal from being pushed back towards the driver and mitigates impact on the leg during a frontal collision.
Passive safety features
Passive safety features activate as required during an accident, working to minimse damage and reduce the risk of injury during the time of impact.
SRS advanced airbags
Extra protection in a collision is provided by the Swift's Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) front, side and curtain airbags.
The front air bags for the driver and passenger deploy when a moderate or severe frontal impact is detected, minimising the impact to the head and chest. Curtain and front side air bags are provided for side impact collisions, mitigating the impact to head and chest areas of the occupants. SRS airbags are designed to work in conjunction with properly worn seatbelts.
Electronic Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts
The Swift 3rd Gen combines three-point ELR seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters to prevent or limit the forces of a collision.
Three-point seatbelts incorporate both a lap and sash belt spreading the load over the chest, pelvis and shoulders. Pretensioners allow the seat belt to freely extend and retract with occupant movement, locking the belt during a sudden stop or upon impact. The force limiter works in conjunction with the pretensioner, gradually releasing the force applied to the chest of occupants.
Seatbelt reminders
A warning light on the Swift 3rd Gen's instrument panel and a buzzer remind the driver and front passenger to fasten their seatbelts. A warning light also informs the driver when rear passengers have not fastened theirs.
Head restraints
The Swift 3rd Gen's adjustable head restraints attached to the top of each seat limit the rearward movement of an occupant's head in a collision.
Child seat tether anchorages
Top tether anchorages in the Swift are upper anchorage points over the back of the seat enabling child restraints to be adequately secured to the vehicle.
Please consult with the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) for the latest requirements for using child restraints in New Zealand and follow the instructions provided by the child seat manufacturer.
Child seat ISOFIX anchorages
The ISOFIX child seat attachment anchorages makes it easier to securely install a compatible child seat by pushing the connector, mounted underneath the child seat, into the attachment point on the vehicle side.
Please consult with the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) for the latest requirements for using child restraints in New Zealand and follow the instructions provided by the child seat manufacturer.
