Features

Engine Key Features

  • Thoroughly updated 398cm³ liquid-cooled DOHC dry-sump engine has been refined to deliver smooth, controllable power from low rpm through to the high end of its operating range, while meeting the latest emission and noise standards.
  • New camshaft profiles achieve greater intake lift and improved valve overlap, which enhance engine performance while ensuring compliance with Euro 5+ standards.
  • The cylinder head boasts a new design with optimised intake port and intake valve periphery shapes along with a smooth, flat combustion chamber. This enhancement leads to improved combustion efficiency, providing excellent durability at low loads and strong power output at high loads.
  • New piston and crankcase designs combine to reduce mechanical loss by up to 20% and contribute to smoother engine operation, increased power output right up to the rev limit, and improved fuel economy.
  • The engine is fed by a 42mm bore electronic-controlled throttle body that helps achieve a fine balance between idling speed control and power output characteristics
  • The exhaust system is equipped with a dual-stage catalytic converter that helps satisfy Euro 5+ emissions standards.
  • Revised air cleaner box and inlet tube design helps reduce resistance, improving low-end torque production and power output.
  • New radiator with larger fan diameter improves cooling.
  • One standout feature carried over from the DR-Z400S is the dry sump lubrication system, which contributes to securing ample ground clearance and a low center of gravity.
  • The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) works as an assist clutch to make the lever easier to pull while transmitting the power output, reducing fatigue.

The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) features a collection of advanced electronic rider assist functions including:

  • Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) The rider can select between three modes that deliver different power characteristics to match the riding conditions. All power modes build to the same peak power.

- Mode A provides the sharpest response as the throttle is opened. Tuned to deliver exciting acceleration and fully leverage the engine’s power.

- Mode B features a more linear curve with softer initial throttle response, to deliver a satisfying balance of settings that make a good fit for a broad range of riding styles and road conditions.

- Mode C gives the softest throttle response and more gentle torque characteristic. This setting is a good choice when riding on loose or otherwise slippery surfaces.

  • Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) helps prevent rear wheel spin, enabling you to better control the bike in diverse and varying conditions. In addition to G (Gravel) mode, you can select between two standard on-road modes. Mode 1 is intended for dry paved surfaces, while Mode 2 is intended for wet paved surfaces, taking effect more quickly to be more proactive in limiting wheel spin. You can also opt to turn the system off entirely Note: Traction control is not a substitute for the rider's throttle control. It cannot prevent loss of traction due to excessive speed when entering turns, or while braking. Nor can it prevent the front wheel from losing traction.
  • G (Gravel) mode allows a limited amount of tyre slip when riding on unpaved surfaces so the bike remains controllable, while at the same time delivering the consistent power output you want for exploring unpaved roads and country trails with greater confidence.
  • The DR-Z4SM lets you switch off ABS at the rear wheel, giving you the option to match your preferred control method when braking on gravel or other loose surfaces. Front ABS remains active full time.
  • Suzuki's Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle System gives greater controllability over the engine and helps harness that power effectively.
  • The Suzuki Easy Start System starts the engine with one quick press of the starter button, even without pulling in the clutch when the transmission is in neutral.

Chassis Key Features

  • All new frame designed to respond faithfully to your will. The steel frame is rigid yet supple enough to handle rough surfaces, and absorb impact to reduce rider fatigue.
  • The lightweight aluminium swingarm, with its distinctive design, enhances tracking and rear suspension responsiveness, leading to a smooth and comfortable ride.
  • Long travel suspension featuring adjustable KYB inverted front forks with a long 260 mm suspension stroke and KYB rear suspension with 277 mm of rear wheel travel.
  • The DR-Z4SM rides on 17-inch rims front and rear. These wire-spoked wheels are shod with Dunlop SPORTMAX Q5A performance street tyres, which feature a custom-engineered internal construction and profile, and use a proven silica compound that provides positive grip in both dry and wet conditions. An aggressive long groove pattern also contributes to nimble, sporty handling and to maintaining solid grip, even in wet conditions.
  • Light, strong and flexible, the tapered aluminium handlebars fitted with half-waffle grips provide a solid grip, positive control, and help reduce fatigue.
  • Optimised seat width improves comfort when riding on rough terrain or trails.
  • The standard-equipment aluminium under cover protects the engine
  • Wide rider footpegs.
  • The lockable toolbox has been repositioned to the side for greater convenience.

Electric Equipment Key Features

  • Both high and low beams are incorporated into one bright LED projector.
  • LED rear combination light and license plate light.
  • Newly designed full LCD instrument panel.
